Temptation

Matthew 4:1-11

Then the Spirit led Yeshua up into the wilderness to be tempted by the Adversary. After Yeshua had fasted forty days and nights, he was hungry. The Tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, order these stones to become bread.” But he answered, “The Tanakh says,

‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of Adonai’” (Deut. 8:3)

Then the Adversary took him to the holy city and set him on the highest point of the Temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “jump! For the Tanakh says,

‘He will order his angels to be responsible for you. . . . They will support you with their hands, so that you will not hurt your feet on the stones.’” (Psalm 91:11-12)

Yeshua replied to him, “But it also says, ‘Do not put Adonai your God to the test.’” (Deut. 6:16)

Once more, the Adversary took him up to the summit of a very high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in all their glory, and said to him, “All this I will give you if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 “Away with you, Satan!” Yeshua told him, “For the Tanakh says,

‘Worship Adonai your God, and serve only him.’” (Deut. 6:13-14)

11 Then the Adversary let him alone, and angels came and took care of him.

This set of verses is a little longer than I would like, however, these verses naturally work together.

Once again there are prophecies fulfilled. Jesus responded to the Adversary with the WORD of God. This is how we are supposed to respond when trials come to us. We are supposed to have the Word of God hidden in our heart so we can combat the negativity of the enemy with the positive TRUTH of the Most High God.

There are many details that could be looked at about the difference pieces that the Adversary tempted Jesus with. Bread... (we know the significance of that!) Tempting Jesus from the high point of the Temple... (if that isn't significant than what is???) and last, the HIGHEST summit of the mountain to look at kingdoms of the world... (WHOSE Kingdom is greatest?)

We also know that the number 40 is significant. That is a study by itself. There has been something floating around on FB and other places about the 40 days of quarantine.

What we should be focusing on in all of this is, understanding the WORD of God in a new way so that we can STAND STRONG. Using Jesus as our example, we can fight the enemy with the WORDS of God and stay positive and full of JOY in the middle of the chaos.

Love and blessings,

Rose

I used a mountaintop picture because that is where the last temptation occurred. If I had a good picture of Mt Hermon in Israel I would have used that, but it would have taken me too long to find it. Mt Hermon is another significant place to study about!
