36 Then Yeshua went with his talmidim (dsiciples/students) to a place called Gat-Sh’manim (Gethsemane) and said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took with him Kefa (Peter) and Zavdai’s (Zebedee) two sons. Grief and anguish came over him, 38 and he said to them, “My heart is so filled with sadness that I could die! Remain here and stay awake with me.” 39 Going on a little farther, he fell on his face, praying, “My Father, if possible, let this cup pass from me! Yet — not what I want, but what you want!” 40 He returned to the talmidim and found them sleeping. He said to Kefa, “Were you so weak that you couldn’t stay awake with me for even an hour? 41 Stay awake, and pray that you will not be put to the test — the spirit indeed is eager, but human nature is weak.”
Sleep. Our bodies need it. Especially when we are under stress. Whether the disciples realized it or not, they were in a battle. The biggest spiritual battle to date. The Messiah's life, whom they had grown to love, was being fought over. And crazily, the enemy looked to be winning.
The disciples were under stress and didn't even know it. Jesus was praying and interceding for His life. He was asking His Father to remove the cup from Him, but acknowledged that only the will of the Father was what was desired. The disciples probably had no clue this was happening, but just by being in the area of Jesus, the battle would affect them!
I must admit that if I heard Jesus' words to me today, I would be sad. Jesus looked at Peter and said, "Were you so weak???..." It was the wake up call Peter needed, and yet, when I hear those words from Holy Spirit, my heart hurts. It breaks me to know that Jesus would think I am weak.
The battle we are in is STRONG. The elections show a very divided nation. Covid19 is messing with our minds and bodies. The control the governments of the world are placing on people. Friends, we are in a SPIRITUAL BATTLE. All of these scenarios and situations are part of the battle at the end.
In the middle of the battle, I am tired. My body is weak. My spirit is willing to fight, but my body is exhausted.
If Jesus was so overcome with sadness and grief, how much more will we experience the same?
We MUST encourage one another to FIGHT on. To GIVE THANKS in ALL circumstances. To recognize that HE is ultimately in control and when we TRUST in HIM we have VICTORY!
We MUST use HIS WORDS to fight off the enemy. We MUST know that GOD has control over our minds.
Let us cheer one another on today in this battle that belongs to the LORD. He will take care of us.
