Signs from the Earth

Matthew 27:51-54

51 At that moment the parokhet in the Temple was ripped in two from top to bottom; and there was an earthquake, with rocks splitting apart. 52 Also the graves were opened, and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life; 53 and after Yeshua rose, they came out of the graves and went into the holy city, where many people saw them. 54 When the Roman officer and those with him who were keeping watch over Yeshua saw the earthquake and what was happening, they were awestruck and said, “He really was a son of God.”

Parokhet - this is the curtain that covered the Ark of Covenant in the Temple. Today it is the "curtain" that covers where the Torah scroll is held. This "curtain" was not made of lace or thin cloth. It was most likely a thick piece which was not easily torn.

Earthquake - we can imagine what the people felt when they realized that as Jesus died this is what happened. For those close to the execution stake, they would have seen, and felt, everything the moment Jesus spoke His last words.

Graves opening - can you imagine being close to a cemetery and all of a sudden graves opened and people were raised to life?

I didn't hear about this as I was growing up. It is a piece of the puzzle that was not mentioned. However, Matthew clearly tells us that people were RAISED from the dead. They went into the Holy City and people saw them. I think that watching that happen would have shook the whole city.

The Roman Officers KNEW that Jesus was the Son of God. At the moment that Jesus died, they felt the strength and POWER of God. The Word of God makes it clear that God uses every situation to show Who He is.

There were signs along the way for Who Jesus was. Some saw them. Others did not. Thankfully, God always has a plan and He gives us the opportunity to see Him. We have the choice to understand. We have the choice to believe, or walk away.

The days we live in now, there are signs. God gives us choices. Will you choose to ask God what HE wants from you?

Keep your eyes open for His signs.

Love and blessings,

Rose
