Feeling Abandoned

Matthew 27:45-50

45 From noon until three o’clock in the afternoon, all the Land was covered with darkness. 46 At about three, Yeshua uttered a loud cry, Eli! Eli! L’mah sh’vaktani? (My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?)47 On hearing this, some of the bystanders said, “He’s calling for Eliyahu.” 48 Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, soaked it in vinegar, put it on a stick and gave it to him to drink. 49 The rest said, “Wait! Let’s see if Eliyahu comes and rescues him.” 50 But Yeshua, again crying out in a loud voice, yielded up his spirit.

Psalm 22:1

2 (1) My God! My God!

Why have you abandoned me?

Why so far from helping me,

so far from my anguished cries?

Psalm 69:22

22 (21) They put poison in my food;

in my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink.

David had similar experiences to what Jesus would experience. David faced many tormentors and wanted them to be held accountable for their actions. David felt abandoned by God and wanted to be released from the bondage he often experienced.

The phrase Jesus spoke has been questioned at times because, "why would God forsake His Son?" I remember our son asking this question a couple years ago. He had found a website with a unique explanation. I do not know where that is now. If he remembers I will add it to this link later.

Today as I was investigating a little, I found this link with some possible thoughts. I haven't done enough investigative work myself to truly know what is "truth," but I don't think God actually "abandoned" Jesus.

As we face times of feeling abandoned or deserted, we need to remind ourselves that God does nothing without a purpose or reason. If we can remember that, and give thanks in the middle of the situation, we will find HIS strength to help us through.

God will work ALL things together for good for those who love Him. Hold to that Truth today.

Love and blessings,

Rose
