But those who HOPE in Adonai...
Shabbat! It’s another Friday! I certainly hope you have not gotten tired of hearing those words once a week. For me, they really are a source of JOY and PEACE when I know that Shabbat is here. So, another verse about REST!\
Isaiah 40:30-31
Young men may grow tired and weary,
even the fittest may stumble and fall;
but those who hope in Adonai will renew their strength,
they will soar aloft as with eagles’ wings;
when they are running they won’t grow weary,
when they are walking they won’t get tired. (CJB)
This verse is so well known. I held off writing about it because I feel that sometimes it is overused. Today, after talking with a friend at our local veggie shop I knew it was time. When I asked my friend how she is doing she responded that she has been better. She continued to tell me that a close friend had passed away the night before from a heart attack. He was 51 and the “healthiest of their group.” Needless to say it was quite a shock.
When I read this verse, about young men growing tired and weary, I had to stop and think. It is always hard to hear about young men passing away. It isn't easy to hear about the "fittest" stumbling.
Physically we will eventually die. Emotionally we will have moments we just give in and don't care. But when we give up spiritually, we will not have our eternal focus. We won't be able to walk each day knowing HE loves us and wants a relationship with us.
I realized that physically we can tire. Emotionally we can tire. But, if we tire spiritually and lose HOPE, than of course we will be weary. When we do not focus on HIM than we will stumble and fall.
This verse is about staying focused spiritually. We recognize that physically we are wasting away, but spiritually we should be growing and thriving!
On this Shabbat, find a way to HOPE in HIM and REST in HIM. Take time to just LISTEN to HIM and walk with HIM. Then you will find the way to SOAR on eagles wings and NOT grow weary. HE is YOUR rest.
