Become a People of Light

Tonight is the second night of Chanukah and we are celebrating lighting the candle of Peace. If you read the article I did about why our family chooses to celebrate this festival, you will know that we read about the Fruits of the Spirit every night.

Since this week is called the “Festival of Lights” I decided to choose a verse about light every day this week.

Today I chose the verse from John 12:36

While you have the light, put your trust in the light, so that you may become people of light.” Yeshua said these things, then went off and kept himself hidden from them.

Jesus was speaking to the people who were questioning about who the Messiah was. It is a good chapter to look at in its entirety.

This verse makes it clear that they they “had the light.” The crowds of people were supposed to “put their trust in the light.”

The next line is key:

“So that YOU may become people of light.”

Jesus was telling HIS people they needed to be people of light. He wanted them to walk forward in His Truth. He wanted them to recognize Him for Who He was. The verse before says:

Yeshua said to them, “The light will be with you only a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, or the dark will overtake you; he who walks in the dark doesn’t know where he’s going.

He was informing the crowd that He would be with them only a while longer and that when He would leave the dark would come.

We all know what happens when there is no light. It is dark.

God wants us to be “people of light.” We should carry HIS light to those around us. We should be the light to the cashier at the grocery store, or the gas station attendant, or the server at a restaurant.

This week is a good time to remember WHO HE created you to be. This week remember that YOU are a beacon of LIGHT when you believe.

Love and blessings,

Rose
