The storm...

Matthew 8:23-27

23 He boarded the boat, and his talmidim followed. 24 Then, without warning, a furious storm arose on the lake, so that waves were sweeping over the boat. But Yeshua was sleeping. 25 So they came and roused him, saying, “Sir! Help! We’re about to die!” 26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid? So little trust you have!” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and there was a dead calm. 27 The men were astounded. They asked, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey him?”

The storm... I used to hate storms when I was a child. Storms in Indiana, and then Tennessee later, meant that tornadoes could come. The house I grew up in had been struck by lightening when my dad lived there as a child. The "scar" from the hit was still on the kitchen cabinet. Let's just say, storms were not my favorite experience, especially when they were at night.

When we had children things began to change a little. I couldn't act scared because my fear would then project to them. I began to view storms differently.

When we moved to Israel, storms actually became something I looked forward too. Maybe it was because we did not see rain for so many months in the summer. Or maybe it was just the fact that where we lived I could see the storm moving in, and the thunder would crack just above our house reminding me of the greatness of God (I hear the rolling thunder).

Storms are in our life for a reason. They should force us to look to God, who is there walking right beside us through the wind and waves. He doesn't want us to be afraid. He wants us to trust Him to calm the storm and bring peace.

Some storms come quickly, like the one Jesus and the disciples experienced. Some brew in the distance and then hit. Each one should take us to His feet. Each one should take us to His Words. When we experience Him calm the craziness around us, we should be amazed and give thanks.

Love and blessings,

Rose
