Faith and Trust

Matthew 15:21-28

21 Yeshua left that place and went off to the region of Tzor and Tzidon (Tyre and Sidon). 22 A woman from Kena‘an (Canaan) who was living there came to him, pleading, “Sir, have pity on me. Son of David! My daughter is cruelly held under the power of demons!” 23 But Yeshua did not say a word to her. Then his talmidim (disciples/students) came to him and urged him, “Send her away, because she is following us and keeps pestering us with her crying.” 24 He said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Isra’el.” 25 But she came, fell at his feet and said, “Sir, help me!” 26 He answered, “It is not right to take the children’s food and toss it to their pet dogs.” 27 She said, “That is true, sir, but even the dogs eat the leftovers that fall from their master’s table.” 28 Then Yeshua answered her, “Lady, you are a person of great trust. Let your desire be granted.” And her daughter was healed at that very moment.

This passage is about the Jews and Gentiles. Jesus was Jewish. He said (verse 24) that He was "sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." This means that He was sent to be among the Jews/Hebrews/Children of Israel.

When Jesus left and went to the area of Tyre and Sidon, He went up into Lebanon. It was probably a good 63km/40 miles away from the Sea of Galilee. Not a short distance at all when you are walking.

While He was there a woman came to Him. She was from Canaan. This is in the West Bank region of Israel and even further away. She was also not Jewish. The people from Canaan were "Canaanites."

Somewhere along the way she had heard of Jesus. She knew He was able to heal people. When Jesus responded that He was only sent for the Children of Israel, this woman had such trust and faith that she told Him, "even the dogs eat from the master's table." This means that even she, as a person outside of the Jewish faith, should have access to the master's table.

Jesus healed the daughter. Jesus helped a person who had trust and faith in Him. Jesus knows who He is called to serve, but He also knows that He works outside any boundaries. He is there for ALL people and will help those who have FAITH.

Sometimes we place Him in a box. Sometimes we want to limit who He will heal. Sometimes we need a woman like this Canaanite woman to bring us Truth and Faith.

Love and blessings,

Rose
