A holy remnant...
So many words in the Bible are often overlooked. Small books of the Bible not read. Prophets that spoke Words from Adonai years ago that are not understood today. What do we do with them?
I wish I could do a deeper study at times, but I pray that this devotional will wet your appetite for more. I pray that there are pieces within this that will encourage you to dig deeper and ask Holy Spirit to reveal HIS secrets to you.
Here is a simple verse from the book of Obadiah. This verse is packed with LOVE straight from the heart of God.
Obadiah 1:17
But on Mount Tziyon there will be
a holy remnant who will escape,
and the house of Ya‘akov will repossess
their rightful inheritance. (CJB)
Mount Zion is the City of Jerusalem. An old hymn I sang often growing up said, “We’re marching to Zion, beautiful, beautiful Zion…”
Someday those who believe will be in the New Jerusalem. Someday they will be singing together as HIS crowd and HIS people bringing HIM glory!
When this verse says, “A holy REMNANT who will escape…” it means those who choose to follow Adonai. Those who desire a RELATIONSHIP with God. Those who BELIEVE the Words He spoke.
If one studies history, you can see that there is always a group of people who STAND for what is RIGHT and TRUE. There is always someone that BRINGS back TRUTH from the Word of God. These groups are the HOLY REMNANT that GOD is protecting. Some of them may die because they speak the Truth. However, HE is always with them through trials and struggles. Adonai will watch over them and take care of them. They truly are HIS PEOPLE.
I believe that originally those people were the Hebrew Children. The Israelites who came from Abraham. Along the way Gentiles have been grafted in (Romans 11). God’s plan was open to EVERYONE. EVERYONE who chooses to believe in HIS ways are part of HIS family.
This verse reminds us that when we CHOOSE to LISTEN to God, HE will bring them their rightful inheritance. These people will be part of the NEW Jerusalem.
Today, make a choice to BELIEVE and LISTEN to Him. Take a STAND for ALL He needs you to be. Choose to be in the remnant no matter the cost. You might just find yourself planted in a place you never expected to be, but you will GROW. God loves you enough that when you choose to follow HIM, HE will be with you and bless you with an inheritance.
