Your body is a Temple...

Updated: Mar 18, 2019

Hello friends,

It has been a couple days since I actually did a FB live video teaching, and so now I need to follow up with my blog! I pray you had a wonderful holiday weekend and are ready and rested for ALL HE has planned this week!

Today I used the verse from my YouVersion Bible App from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20:

Or don’t you know that your body is a temple for the Ruach HaKodesh who lives inside you, whom you received from God? The fact is, you don’t belong to yourselves; for you were bought at a price. So use your bodies to glorify God.

After I used this verse and taught, I realized that I should have waited and used it in a couple weeks when Chanukkah starts. I had a discussion with someone who is staying with us for a couple of days, about the festival of Chanukkah. We were talking about how Chanukkah is a celebration of the Temple being rededicated. This verse came to my mind and I realized that during Chanukkah we rededicate our bodies and recognize Who God is in our lives. That will need to be another teaching on another day…

For today’s teaching on FB, I focused on the idea that during the busy holiday season we tend to forget to take care of our bodies. I know that eating too much sugar is easy to do and then I feel sluggish. It’s no ones fault but my own! I make it, I eat it, my problem!

There is also a tendency to get so busy that we forget to take care of our minds. We don’t focus on what is positive, or we forget to fill our mind with the Word of God. I know that the past couple days it wasn’t easy for me to do the FB live, and then it caused me to lose some focus on His Words. I still read the Word of God everyday, but because I needed to cook or bake or clean… my mind lost a bit of what HE wanted to show me. I hurried through instead of being still.

These verses are a great reminder during this season that we need to STOP and look at what we are doing to our bodies.

The Ruach is “wind” in Hebrew. This is the Spirit. The Spirit is a “breath” that flows in, through and around us.

Ha is “the.”

Kodesh is “Holy.”

We truly are a temple of the Holy Spirit. Everything we put into our body should glorify God. And I believe that our body includes our mind. What we fill our mind with is just as important as what we put in our body physically.

The other question we need to ask ourselves is, “what we do to our body, does it glorify God?” I say that even too much exercise, if it is done for wrong purposes (some people become quite arrogant with how they look), than our body becomes an idol before God. Exercising for health reasons is important. Excess exercise that is more about how we look, or who we want to look like, is not.

These things are not always easy to see. I know I struggle at times with decisions I make about a dress to buy, or earrings. Is it really necessary? How often do I need to do my hair just to “look younger?” I don’t say this to be legalistic. I just know that sometimes it is easy to miss what He is trying to teach us.

Sometimes with my children I have to take away their device in order to teach them balance and how to listen. Sometimes God has to do the same thing with us. He has to remove something from our life for a bit so He can bring us back into balance. Maybe it is remove sugar. Maybe it is alcohol. We just need to listen to what balance HE is trying to bring to us.

Today I pray balance over everyone reading this. That you listen to the Holy Spirit and do your best to walk by His guidance. That what you fill your mind and body with are what He brings to you. That His Word is the lamp to your feet and the light to your path.

Remember, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. YOU were bought with a price. Use ALL you talents and what HE has given you for HIS glory.

Love and blessings,

Rose
