I lie down and SLEEP...
Today is Shabbat!!! We have another opportunity to REST and spend time with HIM. I like to find verses about rest on Fridays. Many are in Psalm. Today is no exception. Psalm 3:6 (verse 5 in many translations) I lie down and sleep, then wake up again, because Adonai sustains me. (CJB) This verse does not have the word “rest” in it, but when we stop to think about “I lie down and sleep” this cannot happen without REST. If you read the whole chapter, you quickly understand that

NOTHING is too hard...
Today’s verse is also a song. I love when I can SING the Word! It makes it so much easier to remember! Jeremiah 32:17 “Adonai, God! You made heaven and earth by your great power and outstretched arm; nothing is too hard for you. (CJB) HIS great POWER created EVERYTHING we see. HIS outstretched arm CREATED YOU. Our God is truly KING over all the earth. We - YOU - can walk in that power because HE created you in HIS IMAGE! Once you begin to understand that, then you can truly B

Adonai is my LIGHT...
This verse was on the calendar today and is a great reminder for all of us about WHO God is. It is a strong statement about the attributes of Adonai. Psalm 27:1 Adonai is my light and salvation; whom do I need to fear? Adonai is the stronghold of my life; of whom should I be afraid? (CJB) A favorite verse of mine, this should encourage us to HOLD on to God. HE gives LIGHT. HE gives salvation. Because of HIM we have NOTHING to fear. Our Creator is a STRONGHOLD. See Him as a RO

I will place the key of David...
The verse today is one that I saw posted somewhere on Facebook. I liked the reference (22:22). However, I also like the words. They are more powerful than many realize. Isaiah 22:22 I will place the key of David’s house on his shoulder; no one will shut what he opens; no one will open what he shuts. (CJB) Our family has verse cards that we used to quote and say every morning. They would speak LIFE over us. One of them was, “God opens my mouth and no man can shut it, God shuts

HOPE in His WORD...
So many times during the day we stop and wonder what God is doing. We ask Him why someone isn’t healed. We ask Him why the money isn’t available. We ask Him to help us get a job or enter a school. Today’s verse should help us understand what WE can do as we WAIT on Him. Psalm 130:5 I wait longingly for Adonai; I put my hope in his word. I wait longingly… I think that the scenarios above require us to “wait longingly.” We are waiting for a friend to be healed. We are waiting f

Shabbat is a delight...
It is Friday again and time for Shabbat! Cleaning has been done. We just finished dinner with all the blessings - wife, children, bread, wine - and giving THANKS. Now, because it has been colder this week, we are snuggled in blankets watching a movie. I was reminded of a verse today about Shabbat being a delight. We know a song that Barry and Batya Segal sing based on the verse. It is Isaiah 58:13 “If you hold back your foot on Shabbat from pursuing your own interests on my h

The Angel of Adonai...
I flipped the calendar today and the verse there was the one I knew I needed to share it. The calendar said it was Psalm 34:7. In the Complete Jewish Bible it is Psalm 34:8 The angel of Adonai, who encamps around those who fear him, delivers them. (CJB) The verse is a favorite of mine. I believe that angels are real. They are sent by God to protect us and watch over us. Angels will take care of those who fear Adonai. Angels will encamp around those who place their trust in Go

Soft whisper of a voice...
Today as I was trying to think about a verse to share with you, the WIND picked up and was quite strong. I went out to pick up some things that were blowing around and when I came in the kids all said, “Mom! What happened to your hair?” Needless to say, I decided to choose a verse about wind. There are several but I chose I Kings 19:11-13 Then He said, “Come out and stand on the mount before Adonai.”Behold, Adonai was passing by—a great and mighty wind was tearing at the moun

Adonai will be his SECURITY...
I had a realization today. A friend on FB (Lonnie Lane - because I am getting ready to quote her), shared this line, “But then I heard the Lord speak to me saying: ‘The Scriptures are not just so you can feel better, but that you know Me better.’” This line “hit” me a little and made me stop and think. It made me think today that maybe I sometimes “use” the Word of God to just please myself. That is NOT what God wants. God clearly wants us to use the Word to get to KNOW HIM b

MORE than I need...
Sometimes it seems that we always turn to the Psalms when we need comfort and healing. I don’t think this is all bad. The words that David penned were often done when he was in a place of running from enemies or in despair. If he can find ways to encourage himself when all seems helpless and lost, I think we should read what he wrote! Today’s verse is from Psalm 13:6 But I trust in your grace, my heart rejoices as you bring me to safety. I will sing to Adonai, because he give
